SunRise Solar Attic Fans The Original Solar Powered Attic Fan Tue, 28 Jan 2020 17:54:48 +0000 en-US hourly 1 SunRise Solar Attic Fans 32 32 The Many Benefits of Solar Powered Attic Fans Wed, 22 Jan 2020 17:49:10 +0000 For many years, so many of those who live in the Deep South have been acquainted with the benefits of attic fans. If you opened up the downstairs windows in the cool of the morning and turned on the attic fan, you could suck the hot air out of your home. Then, you’d close the windows and the drapes to keep your house at a comfortable temp. It would be worth the effort if you could stomach listening to that noisy fan, because you could keep your air conditioning unit from running until the mid afternoon; and, electricity costs would be kept to a minimum.

Solar Powered Attic Fans take technology to a new level

Now, solar powered attic fans, also known as solar powered roof fans, have taken the technology to a new level. By providing a continuous flow of air as long as the sun is out, these fans work quietly to reduce heat in your attic and help keep your home at a comfortable temperature. More specifically, the solar powered attic fan is a better defense against the formation of mold and mildew and pockets of hot or stale air that collect in an attic’s nooks and crannies. Another advantage is its ability to guard against ice dams. According to Timothy Larson, et al, of the University of Minnesota Extension in an article entitled “Dealing With and Preventing Ice Dams,” hot air pockets in an attic cause melting snow to collect on certain sections of the roof between snow and a block of ice. This collection could cause moisture to enter the home. It could also cause structural damage to a roof, the attic and the ceiling. Unfortunately, expensive repairs can follow.

Preventing heat build-up as well as structure and moisture damage make solar powered attic fans a worthwhile purchase for many. Once installed, these fans operate at no cost. There’s less strain on your HVAC system. Your upstair is cooler, allowing you to reduce your electric bill. And, if you frequently use the space next to your attic, the fans provide a welcome relief from heat that permeates so easily into adjacent rooms.

Shop from SunRise Solar Online

If you are looking for solar powered attic fans made in the USA, check out our homepage Several SunRise styles are available–curb base, flat base and the gable fan.  All fans are assembled by hand in a facility that is family owned and operated. Prices start at $500.00 for the gable fan and go upward to $799.00 on these fans that are built to last. Installation is quick and wire free; and, the solar powered attic fan is hardly noticeable on your roof. Unlike regular fans, these fans run quietly–so quietly that, according to the website, “you will not be able to hear your SunRise fan operating from your living space.” Also, estimated energy cost savings can be up to 30%.

So, like most of us, if you are searching for ways to reduce heat in your home and lower your energy costs, the solar powered attic fan may be the right thing for you as well as the environment. And, you might say, that’s just COOL!

Solar Attic Fan Installation on Tile Roof Tue, 03 Sep 2019 14:00:36 +0000 Installing a solar attic fan onto a tile roof can be very challenging. There are typically two options for ventilating a home with a tile roof.

  • Curb Fan. This method requires the installer to cut out a section of tile, build a square base, then mount the fan on top of the curb base. Installation Instructions

  • Gable Fan. This method is less intrusive than the curb base option. The gable fan can be mounted on the inside of the attic underneath an existing passive vent. The solar panel is then mounted in a sunny area on the roof using small mounting brackets. Installation Instructions

Solar Attic Fan Installation in Valparaiso, Indiana Wed, 03 Jul 2019 13:00:08 +0000  Valparaiso, Indiana

July 2nd 2019

This customer uses their attic for storage. All of the duct work for the house filters through the attic. If the attic is hot, then the duct work will be hot. This results in very poor air conditioner efficiency. By installing a SunRise Solar attic fan, this customer will enjoy the benefits of having a cooler attic space, a more efficient air conditioner, and lower utility bills!

Solar Attic Fan Installation in Beautiful Bermuda Mon, 24 Jun 2019 13:19:06 +0000 EMAIL FROM CUSTOMER:

SunRise Solar Team,

For your interest:

Previous installation with the panel removed. (This was a SunRise Solar KNOCK-OFF, made in China. This unit did not last as long or perform as the customer thought it would. Steve reached out to the SunRise Solar Attic Fan team for a solution).

I had the previous fan installed in a casing constructed and built in to fit the previous fan’s metal curb. I was unable to remove that metal curb without destroying the casing so I added a new wooden curb on top of the metal curb. This is screwed and taped to protect from sun and rain. All pressure treated wood/plywood was used.

The top of the casing is sloped a few degrees for drainage.

As we live in a hurricane zone, I know (have watched! ) storm driven rain coming in though these fans and vents. My installation is designed so that the fan could be removed in a few minutes and be replaced with a hurricane cover.

The same bolts and plates that hold this cover down hold the fan down.

Also the fan is installed on a Bermuda stone roof that has very little natural ventilation. So for the original fan installation I also installed two intake vents. I have wraparound hurricane covers for these to seal against storm driven rain.

This morning I checked my attic and can feel the air moving and hear the fan running quite happily.

Thanks again and best regards,

-2nd story is less stuffy and less hot going into the evenings.
